My first bespoke suit (an absolutley gorgeous pearl grey in silk)cost me $300(1970)and was worth every cent. Had it made in Hong Kong (whle on leave) by an aged gentleman named Mr Tai; still have his card though I imagine he's long since gone to his ancestors...
ReplyDeleteNow I get a new one made every other year when I travel. No more aged craftsmen though - the suits I buy now come from a Saville Row tailor named Singh. He's out of the Rose Hotel in Bangkok and I think he ships if you're interested.
And if you're wondering, yes - a custom made suit IS worth the money.

ReplyDeleteI recommend that for learning the guitar, study Guitar Hero. For the mid-continental international bike ride, plan for spring or summer, and use a Moped.
Isn't "hand-made bespoke" redundant? Regardless, I want one, too. If only to keep up with Nick.

Grand Canyon is totally worth it, and while you're there don't miss the meteor crater (near Winslow).
@Lee, I think at one time "hand-made bespoke" would have been redundant.
ReplyDeleteBut from what I hear, these days a lot of so-called tailors use machines in their processes, especially with the cheap suits you can get in Hong Kong.
For the Grand Canyon, see the South Rim in May and the North Rim in June or July combining it with Monument Valley, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. A truly epic trip.
