To do ...

I thought I'd post, as a seed for discussion, a few random items from by bucket list in no particular order.

By the way, I'm really not fond of the term "bucket list."
  • See the Grand Canyon
  • Learn to play the guitar
  • Visit all 7 continents
  • Lower my cholesterol
  • Win a $100-million lottery
  • Own a hand-made bespoke suit.
  • Vacation in Ireland
  • Bicycle from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico
  • Invent a sport
  • Take a computer class
  • Drive a fusion-powered car (preferably a DeLorean)
  • Lose 25 pounds

Okay, discuss.

  1. My first bespoke suit (an absolutley gorgeous pearl grey in silk)cost me $300(1970)and was worth every cent. Had it made in Hong Kong (whle on leave) by an aged gentleman named Mr Tai; still have his card though I imagine he's long since gone to his ancestors...

Now I get a new one made every other year when I travel. No more aged craftsmen though - the suits I buy now come from a Saville Row tailor named Singh. He's out of the Rose Hotel in Bangkok and I think he ships if you're interested.

And if you're wondering, yes - a custom made suit IS worth the money.

  2. I checked out your "moderately sized open-top material conveying container" list.

I recommend that for learning the guitar, study Guitar Hero. For the mid-continental international bike ride, plan for spring or summer, and use a Moped.

  3. Isn't "hand-made bespoke" redundant? Regardless, I want one, too. If only to keep up with Nick.

Bicycling from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mexico has a nice water-to-water symmetry.

Grand Canyon is totally worth it, and while you're there don't miss the meteor crater (near Winslow).

  4. @Lee, I think at one time "hand-made bespoke" would have been redundant.

But from what I hear, these days a lot of so-called tailors use machines in their processes, especially with the cheap suits you can get in Hong Kong.

  5. For the Grand Canyon, see the South Rim in May and the North Rim in June or July combining it with Monument Valley, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. A truly epic trip.
