Shine on you crazy diamond

Rest in peace, Syd Barrett.
"Syd Barrett, one of the original members of legendary rock group Pink Floyd, has died at the age of 60 from complications arising from diabetes." ---BBC News

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.

Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.

Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

  1. Ah, a fellow Floyd fan! I should have known, or did I?

I am sad to hear of Mr. Syd's death. He was a bright man. I wonder if the whole band will attend services. That the rather bleak Mr. Waters might reconsider joining the band again would be cool, don't you think?

    Well, maybe not.

    Peace.

  2. Thanks for stopping by and for the comment, Bill.

Barrett's story isn't widely know, but he really does epitomize the tortured creative genius. I know all of the band members maintained a high degree of respect and love for him since the beginning. I remember seeing an interview with Roger Waters who broke up a little bit at what Barrett had become.

Waters said Barrett had requested that the band members not visit him because of the mental and psychological difficulties he was having.

Anyway, I would hope that if anything can get the band back together, it would be this chance to honor their comrade.
