Give my regrets to Broadway

All right. Enough is enough. You're having a little trouble with your commute. We get it.

But it's not a national news story.

I think I can speak for the vast majority of North America when I tell the spoiled public transportation brats of New York that I'm tired of hearing about their problems all the time.

For the last few days in the news it's all "Transit strike snarls NYC for 2nd day"-this and Judge fines NYC transit workers $1 million a day"-that.

Well, here's a news flash for New Yorkers.

"Most of country has own problems to deal with."

Here in KC we've got a skyrocketing East-side murder epidemic, they've got wings falling off of airplanes in Miami, and let's not forget about the dire plight of European Union relations.

So sorry, NY, if I'm not that sympathetic with the fact that you'll have to walk a few blocks to get to that fancy Italian bistro. You're just going to have to deal with it. I mean, fer cryin' out loud, this isn't France.

  2. Wow -- kinda harsh, don't you think? Keep in mind that not all NYCers are thwarted in their attempts to get to a five-star eatery during this strike. Some are actually elderly folks who can't get to their doctors, kids who can't get to their schools, and yes, also the working poor -- those making $7/hour who can't afford cabs in and out of the city every day even if they had three friends to go in with -- just trying to get to their damn jobs at McDonalds.

  3. Bridget, those are good points, I'll grant you. And I was trying to be a little toung-in-cheek.

But it also reminds me of that old Groucho Marx joke, which I'll paraphrase for this situation:

"New York City: It's so crowded that nobody ever goes there anymore."

  4. News of Damon going to the Evil Empire makes me even less sympathetic, if that's possible.

  5. I love New York, and we too had a Transit strike here in Philadelphia with Septa, our ONLY public transit system, so with no one to compete with they shut their lines down for a week and a half...traffic was horrible...in my case, I was fine b/c I drive into the city so early but we had doctors coming in to do their cases mid morning or at noon and couldn't get in b/c the traffic was so bad, so Imagine if you were a patient awaiting surgery...a surgery you needed to just be able to have hopes of getting sight back or to remove a fast spreading cancer that could take both of your eyes I work in Ophthal now can you tell?) and now your doctor can't get in to do your case...cops were literally on every corner to stop grid locking but it didn't work b/c the exits to the highways were creating the grid locks...a mess by any means...but yes, I do understand your point...get on with it and stop complaining...I don't even know why they are striking but in Philli, they were striking over benefits, so I don't blame them one bit as I am a nurse at an institution that keeps striping our benefits away drastically...if we could go on strike we would. So with that said, um...yea....
